Discovering an historic sledge : the paret
Born in the village of Manigod at the heart of the Aravis range in Haute-Savoie, the paret sledge is a small wooden sledge made of a single axe. One sits on an inclined wooden board, with a foot on each side of the paret. You steer by shifting your body weight, while grabbing onto a static wooden handle. This sledge used to allow schoolchildren to move around at the beginning of the 20th century! It holds more than a century of history and know-how.
